Two eight two eight Gulargambone

two eight two eight is a community tourism project located in Gulargambone NSW (about 6 hours NW of Sydney, Australia). The project is run entirely by volunteers and is named after our postcode. Come and visit us !

In 2002 the community purchased
the old Majestic Theatre in the
main street which had been used
as a plumbing workshop for over
30 years. The idea was to turn it
into a tourist information centre.
Following several community
working bees, the building was
repaired, renovated & freshly painted
and the Tuscan-influenced colours
have brought a new lease of life
to the main street. The adjoining
block has been transformed into
an attractive courtyard and over
the next few years the project
grew to become an award winning
example of what small towns can
do if they put their mind to it!
two eight two eight is run entirely by
volunteers. Named after our
postcode, the project now boasts: a
café, landscaped courtyard, gallery
& craft shop (selling local art, craft
& produce), function centre, quality
catering service (including “Dinners
Under the Stars”), movie nights,
library & storytelling, secondhand
bookshop, and an accredited visitor
information centre. The project
has won numerous accolades
including both regional, state and
Australian Tourism Awards. More
recently they have employed an
Indigenous trainee and constructed
a new commercial kitchen. The
popular ‘Dinner under the Stars’
is held in March each year.

We're open Tuesday-Sunday (functions, groups and special occasions by appointment)
